What Power of Place Is
Power of Place is a documentary storytelling project about the places, people, histories and ideas that shape the Pacific Northwest.
Through podcasts, essays, photography, oral histories and fieldwork, we explore how people come to know a place, how landscapes carry memory, and how both change over time.
Together, this work forms a growing record of the region—its stories, its communities, and the relationships between people and place.
HOW WE WORK
Our work brings together place-based reporting, long-form conversation, archival research, photography and field observation.
We collaborate with artists, historians, tribal citizens, community members and others whose knowledge comes from sustained relationships with the places we explore.
THE PROJECT
The Power of Place podcast is one part of a broader documentary project that includes the Journal, photography, oral histories, fieldwork, public gatherings and collaborative Editions.
Each form offers a different way of understanding place—through voices, images, history, observation and direct experience.
Together, they document the Pacific Northwest through multiple perspectives and modes of storytelling.
PEOPLE
Power of Place was founded and is produced by Edward Krigsman in Seattle and co-produced by Orion Brown.
The project is developed in collaboration with photographers, audio makers, researchers, artists and community partners across the Pacific Northwest.
